America Deserves Better: Why Congress Must Remove Donald Trump Now

Donald Trump speaking at Press Conference after plane crash in DC

When Donald Trump was sworn in for his second term as President of the United States, I had sincere doubts about whether he would embrace the opportunity before him. He had a chance to turn over a new leaf, to prove that he could govern responsibly, and to make choices that would lead to a successful presidency. And while I was skeptical, I was still rooting for him to succeed—because at the end of the day, I’m an American first. Regardless of who I voted for, Donald Trump is the sitting President, and his success would mean the success of our country. Unfortunately, in just under two weeks, he has confirmed our worst fears.

Instead of focusing on unity and responsible leadership, Trump has steered America toward disaster. His decision to pardon violent insurrectionists—many of whom attacked law enforcement officers on January 6, 2021—is a slap in the face to the law enforcement community and undermines the rule of law. He has frozen federal aid funds that were already approved by Congress, causing uncertainty and suffering for communities that depend on them. The aviation sector is in crisis, with recent tragedies raising alarms about safety oversight failures. The markets are plummeting in response to his reckless tariff plans, sending shockwaves through the economy and threatening the financial well-being of millions of American families. And these are just a few of the alarming decisions he has made since returning to office.

As the consequences of his chaotic leadership mount, it is becoming increasingly clear that Congress must act swiftly to remove Donald Trump from power before the damage he and his far-right allies cause becomes irreversible. Even members of the Republican Party are starting to see the writing on the wall. If Republicans in Congress fail to act, they will bear full responsibility for every crisis Trump exacerbates. The Party that currently holds power in all three branches of government cannot escape accountability for the dangerous path Trump has set us on.

At Americans for Impeachment, our loyalty is not to a political party or ideology—it is to America and the Constitution. That loyalty fuels our mission and drives us to demand action. We cannot stand by while Trump dismantles democratic norms, prioritizes extremist agendas over the will of the people, and puts the nation’s future at risk. Congress must step up, put country over party, and take immediate action to remove Trump from office before it’s too late.

The time for waiting is over. The time for accountability is now. Join us in this fight to defend democracy before it’s too late.
